that blueberry pie barely put a dent in our pickings from the farm. it's time for me to get moving on the blueberry recipes. i had this ice cream on the list from the very beginning, as i was picking::

and in the end::
it was hot and humid when i decided to mix up the ice cream base, so i went with a "lighter" recipe that didn't include eggs and a custard mix. i used a heaping quart of blueberries, 1 and 3/4 cup sugar and a few tablespoons of water. i let this simmer until the blueberries were soft and the sugar was melted. after straining i added four cups of half and half and then stored it in the fridge overnight so it would be nice and cold for the machine.
this was a big hit, with only one out of six family members turning up their nose. serve with a dollop of whipped cream to make it even more delicious!
