i know i've mentioned that o is our little nature man. however, i'm not sure i've told you just how much of a bird man he is. he has more than a few books, many sets of binoculars and owns numerous species of the stuffed variety. he recently found an old bird book under his bed and while we were reading through it we noticed it had a very, very cool feature; specific bird house dimensions for some of the birds!! too cool. he and big b got right to work::

this one is for the eastern screech owl.
and through the making of this owl house, i have finally solved a mystery that has both plagued me and been a source of humiliation for me for the past eight or so years now. allow me to explain:: every year, around this time actually, while lying in bed at night, i hear the strangest animal calling out. i've gone so far as to imitate it to anyone willing to listen to my story.......no shame apparently. and no one has been able to help me figure it out.....although i can't say i've consulted too many "professionals" and the friends and family who have had the pleasure of being confronted with my nature calls were probably too busy trying not to soil themselves laughing to give me any real insight.
so, as i'm sure you can guess where this is going, i went to the internet and searched "screech owl call" for o last night and lo and behold! (from the 40 second mark on you'll get the full effect) seriously, the closure this has provided is kind of embarrassing. i'm just in shock. and now that you have heard it for yourself, i'm sure you can appreciate where the humiliation comes in! before i geek out to the point of loosing readers here i'm going to call it quits on this post. suffice it to say, this made my day! mystery solved! okay, i'm done.
oh yeah, happy weekend!!
