for the past few weeks, i've been looking through my books and gathering different base and essential oils::
our ultimate goal is to make a plentiful stock of natural anti-bug products for this summer. we are already overrun with mosquitos around here. something must be done. here is the first round::
the bug mist smells very pleasant, really just a mix of lemongrass and citronella. but it is very light and although it seemed to keep things at bay during the day, it didn't hold up at dusk. it also needs to be reapplied. i will definitely keep this as a top coat; something to be spritzed on over whatever is the main event!
the first attempts at a bug balm and bug oil are horrible! the smell is very unappealing, (to put it nicely and keep things 'pg' around here) the neem oil and catnip oil are to blame. if you have never had the pleasure of taking a whiff of pure essential catnip oil, consider yourself lucky and avoid it at all costs. it took me at least an hour to recover from the experience. fans were employed in the kitchen.
but we are on our way to success and i have a plan for the next batch. i'm going to eliminate the neem and catnip as neither of these are found in any of the natural bug stuff at our local market. i don't think they are necessary and we are looking to fend off bugs, not people. i will keep you posted on round two!
