OKAY, THANKSGIVING

sorry about the delay! hope you all had a wonderful holiday and weekend. we had a delicious thanksgiving this year. here were our contributions to the feast::

big b took on the sushi and everyone was pleased. should there be a limit to the amount of sushi pictures i post on this blog? no? okay, great! i made my mom's pecan pie and those acorns! i guess its no surprise that i'm usually asked to take care of dessert. my brother and sister-in-law whipped up the most amazing and abundant thanksgiving spread yet! complete with uncle jimmy's famous rotisserie grilled turkey::

and it tasted even better than it looked, as usual jimbo jones!

THE MILF MARKET

as we continue to digest the food which we were about to receive, and then did, in great quantity, i will take some time to tell you about the MILF market (thats: Mom's In Labor for Fashion.....mmm hmmm, very clever!) this new business is the brain child of my friend maura hempstead and its the craft show i've been stitching things up for for the past few weeks. here's the link!

in maura's own words, the MILF market is::

"a boutique sale of handmade fashions that happens throughout the year at various public venues. it is a unique shopping experience: a chance to purchase handcrafted fashions while enjoying a night out on the town with friends."

sounds good to me, and knowing maura's history as a gallery manager in vermont, i'm sure it will be a huge success. also included in the soiree are my friend shelby's super cute girls hats::

for those of you who are local cape codders, the holiday shopping soiree will take place this coming wednesday, december 1st, from 5pm to 8pm at the island merchant on mainstreet hyannis. grab your bags, grab a drink, and get your holiday shopping on!!

MUSICAL ASPIRATIONS

every year around thanksgiving i pull this book back out and try to learn this song before christmas hits::

this year is no different. i've gotten comfortable with the first page.....but thats usually as far as i get, so we'll see. and look at the cheating. 8 years of classical piano lessons as a kid and i never got the hang of reading music. i write it out and play it until its memorized. not a lot of fun for people forced to listen. this is probably my all time favorite holiday song. i love that it popped up in one of my all time favorite movies:: the royal tenenbaums. i'm in love with wes anderson! and excellent news; he's got another film, moon rise kingdom, starting production in 2011. life is good!

NEW IDEAS

think i can squeeze this knit in before the holidays? yeah, i know, probably not. but when the mayhem dies down and the new year begins, this will most definitely be at the top of my list of new projects. i love it::

DEJA VU

and i'm sure it won't be the last time. here is another version of that pea coat design by anji beane. this one was what i had in mind for bella for christmas. but she has other ideas.....pink ideas. i need to come to terms with the fact that i am going to have to crochet a pink pea coat for her. so be it. i will pick up the yarn tomorrow. until then, i can look at these pictures and pretend she likes this one::

this will be another craft show entry. now, about that pink pea coat, i've got to find a shade i can work with and get moving on some serious holiday crafting. we are down to five weeks! inconceivable!

HOT OFF THE PRESSES

here are a few new bibs i made for that upcoming craft show. i'm nearing completion with the rest of my projects as well. the last minute embellishments are driving me crazy. i'm so indecisive and big b has no eye for fiber design (and yet i still ask his advice on placement, when will i learn?) i have until tomorrow morning.....the clock is ticking::

while making these two bibs, i realized that somewhere along the way i've managed to accumulate an impressive amount of buttons. i'm not quite sure how this happened as i hardly ever use them in my projects, but i would have to say i've officially become a button collector without even knowing it. must be that recessive obsessive-compulsive-hoarding gene shining through. thanks mom and dad! 

THE MOMENT I'VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR

it was very difficult to gift wrap this and stash it in the attic. i wasn't kidding when i said it would wind up being my first choice for christmas this year. i picked up a copy over the weekend and couldn't help but leaf through it a bit before sealing it up::

and thats just a small taste of what's in store! i can't wait. this is, of course, the newest book by amy sedaris. oh, and be warned, this is not a children's crafting book......please do not flip through it in their general vicinity. you'll thank me later!

IN TRAINING

kai remains very helpful with our bee upkeep, which i love. this time i gave him a little more freedom with the smoker::

the bees are still hungry, for now. they're slurping up their 2 to 1 sugar syrup in preparation for the winter. and the hive feels a lot heavier, so i guess there is still a chance of survival::

once they form their winter cluster i'll start mixing up some special fondant (sugar paste) that they can feed off of through the bitter months. i've already choreographed my rain dance for next years nectar season. aside from that, there's not much more i can do!

ON THE HALF SHELL

last year, when she was only one week old, little lu suited up for her first family outing:: low tide, opening day, oyster hunting. i had my rake in one hand, a bucket in the other and little lu bobbing along in her sling, fast asleep. this year she still got a lift::

such a beautiful day and such a delectable late afternoon::

sweet sweet!! these were beyond tender and more than delicious!
