DUCK AND COVER!

kai and i decided to introduce the youngin's to jackson pollock over the weekend. o and bella couldn't have been happier. kai had been introduced to his work in preschool and, ever since then, he dabbles a bit whenever he is painting. sometimes a good thing, sometimes not so much. normally i would have waited until the weather could allow us to take this outside, but seeing as this winter is not letting up, i spread out an old table cloth and we tried to keep things under control::

bella waited more patiently than i could have imagined, being third in line. when she finally dipped in a brush, she amazed the lot of us by producing a perfect little purple balloon with her first slosh. the boys were flabbergasted and she became the star of the jackson pollock experiment::

this art project is also part of a larger idea that kai cooked up on his own. one which i immediately endorsed and am thrilled to help him realize. more on that to come!

LONG TIME.....

no post. we were hit by a sudden stomach bug on monday and the rest is history. things seem to be on the up and up now. which is very good news. meanwhile, all projects have been on the back burner, waiting for attention::

these are some little finishing details i've been working on. they are roughly the size of a quarter. oddly enough, and i took the time to check, just about a year ago i was knitting some other quarter-sized embellishments when we were struck with the 2010 version of this bug. odd. i'll have to remember not to do any pint sized knitting towards the beginning of march next year. someone remind me. we've got to break the cycle.

the spring/summer issue of the debbie bliss knitting mag is out and it has a sweet little treat inside::

miraculously, i had the precise amount of near rotten bananas needed! this banana muffin recipe is a keeper. super moist. also, very fun to bake the european way, weighing out my dry ingredients and such. fun, easy, delicious. what more could you ask for? i love that she puts recipes in her knitting magazine. i'm going to have to back track through all of the older issues to see what i may have forgotten about. so glad i tried these.

ALRIGHT, I ADMIT IT

this is a christmas gift for next december that i have on the needles here. too much? i debated on whether or not to divulge, but as a diehard procrastinator, its kind of like a dream realized (albeit very premature, seeing as if i hit any glitches that require excessive brain power i'll more than likely place it in my magic cabinet and forget about it for a year or four)::

this will be for bella and i've been wanting to make it for her for a long, long time. i had everything set to go for the last three weeks. the only thing that was holding me back was color choice. i was debating and switching and coordinating. then i realized a couple of things::

1: she's 3

2: judging by her daily wardrobe choices, i'd say she'd be down with anything.

so i grouped up some complimenting colors and cast on my stitches. worst case scenerio, i can give it to my brothers dogs as a chew toy. dogs are color blind right? thought so. more on this to come!

TREATS, AS PROMISED

mmmmm, valentines day; even celebrated late, was as sweet as ever. i got so carried away with the old boiled frosting recipe and the cupcakes in general, that i actually forgot to put out the cookies::

lets just say, it was a long, long six days without big b. no major trauma, but my mind was not quite all together when setting the party table after dinner last night. however, with the cupcakes and little treat tins with chocolates and the homemade pops, there was more than enough sugar surging and no one even missed them.

happy valentines day!!

may your celebrations be sickly sweet and full of treats. and maybe even romantic, if you can find a babysitter. we are postponing our party for a day as big b is still in transit from a snowboarding fiesta out west. goodie updates will be posted her wednesday without fail!

FOR A SECOND THERE....

it almost felt like spring was coming. five out of the eight inches of solid ice in our driveway had melted and birds were being pretty noisy about it. things were dripping, the sun made an appearance, some people even took off their coats! but yesterday morning we were right back to sliding down the driveway, white-knuckled (brake pedal to the floor), praying that no one was coming down the road. thats okay though, i still have some lighter weight, springishly colored knitting going on::

so i'm all good. this little wrap for bella is just about done. what are the odds she'll forget that she tried it on and i'll be able to wrap it up for her birthday? slim to none, i know. but even when they aren't completely surprised, they seem to be just as satisfied in seeing the finished product (as opposed to the product in the works, lying around with strings and needles hanging out of it). so again, all good!

DECORATING EDUCATIONALLY

our snowmen, who had been hanging out over the piano since early december, were starting to look a little sad, so we decided to retire them and craft up some hearts for valentines day. then i had an idea, and luckily everyone approved. the boys LOVED this. especially kai, who is currently studying the solar system::

i let him decide if we should include pluto. he thought we should, since there are still some astronomers out there that don't agree with the change in status. so up it went! i couldn't resist adding a heart moon to the earth. i did hold myself back from the shooting hearts concept though, so thats saying something!

THE MILF MARKET.....ROUND TWO

the debut MILF market shopping soiree was a huge success! and so, maura has set up another, just in time for us all to nab some valentines day treats for those we love, or for ourselves....if those we love are lacking in the imagination department::

this time around my friend megan has decided to get on board. her stuff is amazing. here is a little taste::

snack packs and crayon holders! i'm loving it. the valentines day event takes place this thursday, february 10th at the wine list in hyannis, next to trader joes!! it will run from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. don't miss it! that wouldn't be very romantic of you.

remember that new knit i was working on? well it worked! this is one of five reversible's featured in the book itty bitty toys; a bird's egg that reverses to a little blue bird::

i'm so thrilled with how it came out and it's given me the courage to go forth onto the other reversible patterns. there is one in there that i've been dreaming about making for bella for quite some time. hopefully it will be on the needles next week! meanwhile, this little birdie has already arrived and is living the good life with my pig-tailed niece kea on beautiful k'auai. lucky duck. happy saturday and sunday!
