the other night big b was teaching the kids the finer points of hacky sacking, with an old pom pom that never made it into one of my projects. it actually got quite impressive, with o taking the lead and hacking with his hands. watching them with the pom pom, i realized actual hacky sacks would probably be a pretty simple thing to whip up::
and they were! i'm thinking of posting the pattern on ravelry if anyone is interested. the lentils were perfect, weight wise. the only issue was size. big b claims they are too small. when i was making them, i tried really hard to remember some of those tailgating moments and hone in on the many hacking circles i witnessed. unfortunately, the parking lots of phish shows and allman brothers concerts don't leave the crystal clear recollections that other events might. and truthfully, i was usually too busy shopping for hemp jewelry and patchwork tops (the original etsy market!) to really care about kicking a bean bag around. not to mention, i was horrible at it. lets just say, many an innocent bystander took a hit from a flying birkenstock.
i'm going to stitch some up that have one more increase round and they should be perfect. these smaller ones work just fine though and bella likes to use them for bean bag games too, such as, the bowl toss. so, a success through and through!
