you know the rest. if you thought i would be deterred by last years epic fail, well, not so much. i found a much more promising recipe, from a much more reliable source, reproducing a much more delicious product. homemade cadbury eggs. that's right. i found this recipe on not without salt last year, about two weeks after trashing my sugar bombs. thanks to a recent bookmark clean out, it resurfaced right in time for easter::
i followed the link along to the original recipe and decided to weigh out my ingredients. i wasn't taking any chances this time around. but look at this, that consistency right there told me i was on to something, possibly even something edible::
from here it was just like playing with play dough and later, chocolate. who doesn't enjoy doing those two things?::
that's a glass full of happy. and now slice::
the verdict? they taste good! they taste really good! they taste like homemade cadbury eggs!! and they are incredibly easy. the excitement is almost too much. i've already made notes on the recipe for next year. i stuck more with the original recipe, though the 'not without salt' version was very close, with only a few additions.
the notes: use the vanilla beans (i wasn't going to sacrifice my only two vanilla beans until i was sure things were going to be alright - once bitten twice shy), keep the extra two tablespoons of butter, maybe try that orange blossom water and don't double the salt. as i continue to "taste test" i realize that these could really be played with in all different ways. why not add some raspberry extract to the yoke, or maybe some rum somewhere? rum anywhere is usually good.
happy easter to everyone celebrating! i for one cannot wait to be sifting through my treats. yes, i still get a basket.
