THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL AND A SPOOF

i hope to be watching it at the cape cinema, the most fitting place to see a wes anderson film on the big screen.

PUMPKIN PANCAKES

did you know that with one can of pumpkin puree, you can make a batch of pumpkin cinnamon rolls and then a batch of pumpkin pancakes? yes i made the rolls again, don't judge me. i had research to do and made notes on the original post to prove it. the leftover puree was looking for a place and i had always wanted to try a pumpkin pancake recipe, so i got to it. i printed this recipe and i think you should too. i don't think there could be a better tasting pumpkin pancake out there::

everyone loved them. they were incredible. seriously good. almost dangerous. i did cut back on the spices a bit, same as with the pumpkin cinnamon rolls. too much pumpkin spice for me is just too much. i think i nearly halved each measurement. if you like it spicy just don't do that. i like subtle spice and more pumpkin flavor. personal preference. make these!

 

SANDY NECK HIKE

nothing too serious. just a little trek before dinnertime. we made it as far as trail one and then headed toward the ocean to circle back. but we took our time, due in part to owen finding creatures and tracks and stopping to tell us about different berries and bushes. he has this thing recently with praying mantises. he's been finding them everywhere. look who he picked up two steps in::

he carried it for most of the hike. a few steps later? baby terrapin tracks::

someday, somehow, we'll make the full six mile hike out to the lighthouse. until then, as far as we can get will do just fine::

ps - highlight of trail one:: a huge soft sandy hill to roll down. not a dune, it is just a large hill on the trail. the perfect spot to get out all of the rolling and climbing that you can't do on those beautiful dunes. most of our hiking time was spent there. sand-filled pockets all around!

 

FASHION PLATES FLASHBACK

thank you leigh-ann for pinning a photo of them. i almost choked on my hot chocolate when i saw it. it brought me right back to being six, or seven, or however old i was when i spent huge amounts of time working on my set. i quickly found and won some on ebay. did you know they made that blue additional set? i must have missed that commercial. at any rate, now indy and ellie will be able to have just as much fun. it even came with the original crayon holder thing. oh the memories! this will be the best christmas present ever. i know indy especially will enjoy it. she loves to draw and put together interesting outfits for herself. perfecto!

 

PURL SOHO

 a dream realized::

walking around purl soho. it was like stepping into one of the last-minute books or seeing the blog in real life. the colors, the kits, the notions. purl soho! i was there, in the shop! and there was spent most of my savings. furthermore, i would have to say that the staff of purl soho is absolutely amazing. warm, funny, knowledgeable, helpful, everything. did i mention funny? what a great all around experience. i will be back, maybe sooner than later. right nej?

 

NO SLEEP TIL

i finally got a chance to take a weekend trip down to visit my friend nej in new york. solo! i woke up to city streets and the weekend farmer's market. and also the most incredible latte i've ever tasted. i forgot how exciting city living is and instantly fell in love with brooklyn. i think i need to be spending more regular amounts of time at bedford and broadway!

 

PUMPKIN CINNAMON ROLLS

i'm having trouble finding the right words for this post. i think you need to just click here, print the recipe and have a special saturday or sunday morning:: 

these were just amazing. and very doable. just the right amount so that you don't feel overwhelmed by the process. trust me, the process is worth it! also, i love baking recipes where you weigh out your ingredients. there's just no messing them up. it's fall! you should make these.

** update:: i made these again and cut the spice measurements in half (i did use the full amount of cinnamon though). much mellower and a much better result. **

 

THE LAST SLING

i finally finished it. this one has been in the making for a long, long time. i fell in love with the main fabric and then spent many months trying to find a coordinating color for the handles. thank you willie for taking me through the batiks::

the inside was easy. i think that's my favorite lining yet. it just makes me happy. brightly colored little confetti hearts, you can't go wrong with that. cierra's sling, long overdue but officially done! i will now pick a different pattern to obsess over, i promise. see post title.

 

 

SATURDAY AND SUNDAY WITH THE GIRLS

with big b and the boys away for the weekend, the girls and i had a list of things to accomplish. movie night. check. pancakes with whipped cream. also check, against my better judgement. trip to coonamessett for pumpkins and chicken feeding::

check. i love those guinea fowl. gray with white polka dots, pretty stylish. a warm and delicious tea party. check. with some white peach tea from spice merchants::

trip to the emergency room after a heated wooden block fight. not on the list, but check:: 

ellie narrowly avoided a pair of staples in the noggin and the lesson of "don't throw blocks" was finally learned. the hard, head gashing way. in short, weekend without the boys still just as exciting!
